On Project Research '97

This academic year is a year of representation theory at RIMS. The title of the year is:

Analysis on homogeneous spaces and representation of Lie groups.
Organizing Committee consists of five members:
Toshio Oshima (Univ. of Tokyo)
Masaki Kashiwara (RIMS, Kyoto Univ.)
Toshiyuki Kobayashi (Univ. of Tokyo)
Toshihiko Matsuki (Kyoto Univ.)
Kyo Nishiyama (Kyoto Univ.)

Schedules are being planed now, though gradually the whole project is appearing. There are three main pillars of this project:

  1. RIMS Meeting :
The annual meeting of representation theory in the next year will be held in cooperation with the project. The meeting will be sponsored by RIMS and other foundations, and the committee will invite approximately 15 researchers abroad.

  2. Secondary workshop at RIMS :
We are planning one more meeting at RIMS in the autumn.
This workshop is smaller than the one mentioned above, and consists of small seminars as well as lectures.

  3. Professors Ol'shanski and Opdam are invited to RIMS as visitting professors (4 months long).

The main part of the project will be from the next summer to the winter.
